Kjell Ekstrom is an Associate Member of the Chartered Governance Institute and a member of the Mauritius Institute of Directors (MIOD). With over twenty-two years of experience in the Global Business sector, he has built a solid reputation in the Mauritian global‑business sector, helping corporate and private clients navigate cross‑border regulation and day‑to‑day governance.
Kjell began his career as a Trust Administrator at Standard Bank Trust Company (Mauritius) Ltd. He later joined Abax Corporate Services Ltd—which was then acquired by Ocorian—where he rose through the ranks to become Associate Director of Operations. He then served as Chief Operations Officer at Dolphin Management Services Ltd and, also held the position of Executive Director and Head of Operations at Brent Consulta Management Services Limited all before joining Nexus. In each post he concentrated on refining procedures and strengthening client service across several jurisdictions.
Beyond the boardroom, Kjell is a passionate advocate for youth development through sports. As a former Member of the Mauritius National Rugby Team from 2004 to 2007, he is currently the Head of Rugby in the Association Sportive de Vacoas Phoenix (“ASVP”), one of the major sports club on the island and a member of the Managing Committee of the Mauritius Rugby Federation. His rugby career reached a pinnacle in 2005 when the Mauritius National team won the 2nd Division African Championship.
Today, Kjell dedicates his time to mentoring and coaching young athletes. Under his leadership, his team has achieved numerous victories even in national tournaments, and he continues to invest in their growth by ensuring access to quality training, equipment, and financial support. His rugby committee within ASVP actively secures sponsorships and manages resources to provide the best possible environment for the team’s development.
Kjell is known for his hands-on approach, often stepping in to train alongside his players. He instills discipline, teamwork, and resilience – core values of rugby, while encouraging young people to pursue their dreams and push beyond their limits. His unwavering commitment to sports development has made a lasting impact on the local community, inspiring many to embrace the spirit of rugby.
Despite the challenges, Kjell remains motivated and dedicated to his mission: to elevate Mauritian rugby to new national and international heights, and to empower the next generation through the values of sport and leadership.
